Adobe has unveiled the latest beta version of Photoshop, 25.9, at MAX London today, featuring significant advancements in AI technology with the seamless integration of Adobe Firefly. This update introduces the “Firefly Image 3 Foundation Mode,” which promises substantially improved performance and capabilities of the AI model. Alongside, the new version will also feature a context-sensitive correction brush powered by AI. Additionally, Adobe has released the update to Photoshop 25.7 today, which includes a redesigned font browser with over 25,000 fonts and minor interface improvements.
AI features have been part of Photoshop for some time, but now Adobe is accelerating their integration with the introduction of its generative AI, “Firefly,” directly into the workflow. This move comes as no surprise, considering Adobe’s AI tools have reportedly increased new software subscriptions by 30 percent year-over-year.
For the first time, the new AI functions will enable users to fill a blank page with a generated image, providing a significant aid for illustrators and a new source of inspiration for photographers. Users can describe the desired content through text input, and Photoshop will understand instructions in over 100 languages, including German. Additionally, it is now possible to dictate AI-generated content using a reference image. The AI can also create new backgrounds that match the theme of the project.
Photoshop subscribers can now try out version 25.9 Beta, available in the Creative Cloud app under “Applications.” Photoshop 25.9 is expected to exit beta status in late summer and will be automatically updated for all users. In the meantime, Adobe has also rolled out Photoshop 25.7, enhancing the user experience with a newly designed font browser and subtle interface improvements.
