OnePlus launching its first 5G smartphone in UK and developing long term strategy for the US

In the 5G race where carriers are thriving to embrace the 5G as early as possible, smartphone makers are also putting all  their efforts to remain if not the first then at least among the first to deliver 5G devices to the customers in various market around the world.

With similar aims Chinese maker of smartphones, OnePlus is not only came out building its brand comprising of phones with powerful tools and features but also far cheaper than the big rivals like Apple, Samsung and Google.

And now OnePlus is hoping to release its 5G phone having other latest specifications in second quarter of the year.

Company is intending to show prototype of its 5G phone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week with aims to launch that handsets in second quarter of the year and chosen network carrier EE in United Kingdom and Elisa in Finland for the same.

OnePlus will use Qualcomm’s X50 modem at the core of its 5G devices that will be running on company’s latest Snapdragon 855 processor, the one Samsung is also using in its newly announced Galaxy S10 series.

With the evolution in 5G technology and improvement in devices’ compatibility between varying 5G networks, OnePlus is also aiming to launch other 5G devices specifically for carriers in the United States in the future.

Market in the United States is very important which deserves a long term 5G strategy, OnePlus founder and CEO Pete Lau said through a translator in an interview with USA TODAY. 

For a short term focus, company is already working on 4G LTE version of smartphones for US market, and though there might not be so much difference between the 4G and 5G versions, but the 4G versions will be compatible with most of the carriers in the United States, Lau said.

OnePlus previously launched it 6T with US carrier T-Mobile, with availability of unlocked phones compatible with AT&T and Verizon, and the move made to stand among top 5 branch in the United States who sold their devices above $500 price mark in fourth quarter of 2018.
