Comcast planning new Streaming Platform

In response to an increasing cable cutting trend and requirement of customers to navigate between multiple available sources, for its broadband subscribers, a new product has been planned by Comcast reportedly. Customers will be able to enjoy voice activated remote, Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube along with an additional ease to connect to other streaming apps.

Before launching the in its final stage as an operating platform by next year akin to X1, the product will initially be offered as set-top box.

Operating through its segments of Cable Networks, Broadcast Television, Theme Parks and Filmed Entertainment, Comcast Corp has its significant global presence as technology and Media Company. And cable communication has been major contributor towards its growth, with its offerings of high-speed internet, video streaming and automation of voice and security services to domestic as well as corporate customers. Comcast segment involved in cable TV service providing access to its customer to its video platform X1 connected to several apps like Netflix, You Tube etc. With an upgraded to Comcast video package, new product with no cable TV will have an option for customers to rent their favorite videos and shows.

This product, not allowing access to hundreds of apps or streaming bundles to TVs like AT&T, Dish or DirecTV, will not put Comcast in a direct competition with Apple or Roku.

Through the new product, Comcast is intending to provide the centralized device for connected home, enabling customers to remotely control smart locks, thermostats and similar gadgets of their homes connected to the internet. Broadband segment is main growth factor of Comcast’s telecommunication business. At moment, Comcast have about 25 million domestic broadband subscribers after adding 334,000 subscribers in last quarter only.

Comcast’s new product will be marketed to Internet-only customers for whom monthly subscription charges has not been finalized yet. Number of available apps has also to be decided for the new product.
