Effective November 26, AT&T has announced discontinuation of its Smart Limit service, a parental control app, rather customer will be provided with an app Secure Family app which includes the features of discontinuing app. Enabling the users to track location, prevent purchases and ease of monitoring up to 10 lines, the new app will be available at per month fee of $7.99 with more control and protection.
How much they use the devices daily and what content they see on the Internet are the worries parent for their children are experiencing ever more these days, also pointed out by the several surveys. And this alarming situation has been grounding upon the strong basis also evident by a study released last month by Michigan Medical School which “found high rates of mobile advertising through manipulative and disruptive methods.” To cater such fears of the parents to some extent, AT&T has been come up with this upgraded app Secure Family.
AT&T’s new app will also allow parents to monitor apps downloaded from Google Play or App Store. Parents will also be able to schedule the internet access of their child on a certain device by setting limits or time range to use certain apps. Based on the age settings, Secure Family app also come up with the feature to block or filter online contents and apps.
Secure Family app can also intimate the parents, about departure or arrival of their wards to a location like extracurricular activities and school or home, by sending messages.
Devices with a SIM card with 10-digit unique phone number which are attached to the same postpaid wireless account of AT&T could be able to monitor the paired devices through the Secure Family app also allowing send invitation to child’s device from parent’s app. Wi-Fi only smartphones and feature phone will not be supported by the new app as stated by AT&T officials.
